Jun Jae-soo’s official declaration of candidacy raises questions about the Unification Church bribery investigation

Jun Jae-soo officially declared his candidacy for the Busan mayoral election while questions linger about the ongoing investigation into his alleged bribery connected to the Unification Church.

Jun Jae-soo, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, made headlines on June 13 by officially registering as a candidate for the Busan mayoral election, just as the public's focus shifted to the ongoing investigation into bribery allegations involving him and the Unification Church. According to reports from the legal sector on June 15, former Unification Church leader Yoon Young-ho testified that last August, he provided large sums of money to Jun Jae-soo, former Democratic Party member Lim Jong-sung, and former Future Unification Party member Kim Kyu-hwan. The allegations suggest that between 2018 and 2019, Jun accepted millions of won and luxury watches from the Unification Church, which culminated in criticisms of 'biased investigations' after the assertions became public through media coverage.
