Civil Defense of BH warns of geological risk in all regions of the city

Belo Horizonte's Civil Defense has issued a warning of geological risk in half of the city’s regions due to heavy rainfall, with the forecast of continued rain throughout the weekend.

The Civil Defense of Belo Horizonte has alerted residents that five out of the ten regions of the city are now under a strong geological risk warning due to the potential for landslides as a result of heavy rainfall. The remaining five regions have been placed under a moderate risk alert. The city is expected to experience rainy weather through the weekend, with conditions worsening as the rain began to intensify Saturday morning and is not expected to ease until Monday.

The areas under strong alert include the Centro-Sul, Leste, Nordeste, Oeste, and Barreira regions. Meanwhile, the regions under moderate risk include Pampulha, Venda Nova, Norte, and Noroeste. The persistent rain has already begun to affect the city's infrastructure, with reports of fallen trees and traffic accidents occurring as a result of the severe weather. In the Funcionários neighborhood, residents faced power outages due to the impacts of the storm.

With heavy rain forecasted to continue, local authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant and take precautions to ensure their safety. The situation is particularly concerning given the city's history with landslides during heavy rainfall, making the current alerts critical for public awareness and preparedness as the weekend progresses.
