Civil Defense issues strong geological risk alert for all regions of BH
The Civil Defense of Belo Horizonte has issued a strong geological risk alert for all nine regions of the city, effective until next Monday.
On Tuesday, the Civil Defense of Belo Horizonte announced a strong geological risk alert across all nine regions of the city, set to remain in effect until the following Monday. This alert is particularly due to the forecasted rainfall, with expectations of 50 to 70 millimeters accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts of around 50 km/h, extending until Wednesday morning. Citizens are urged to exercise heightened caution given the potential for flooding and mudslides in the area.
To help residents identify hazards, the Civil Defense has outlined critical signs of instability including cracked walls, ground fissures, jammed doors and windows, pooled water in yards, water draining from hillside bases, leaning posts or trees, bulging walls, and unusual noises in structures. Individuals observing any of these warning signs are advised to evacuate their homes immediately and contact the Civil Defense by calling 199. In an emergency, the Fire Department can be reached at 193 for assistance.
Moreover, the Civil Defense is emphasizing preventive measures aimed at minimizing risks in vulnerable areas, which include staying away from steep terrain and being vigilant about weather updates. The community is encouraged to stay informed and prepared to act should conditions worsen, reinforcing the importance of disaster preparedness in urban environments prone to geological risks.
