Heavy rain and risk of landslides: see the weather forecast in BH for the weekend
Belo Horizonte is expected to experience heavy rain this weekend, posing a significant geological risk of landslides in various regions.
Belo Horizonte is bracing for heavy rainfall over the weekend, particularly in the afternoons, with the local Civil Defense issuing a strong geological risk alert for landslides, effective until Tuesday, October 17. The warning mainly affects the Eastern and Barreiro regions, while the risk is deemed moderate in the Western and South-Central areas. The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has included BH and over 700 municipalities in Minas Gerais in an orange alert for intense rainfall, predicting between 30 and 60 mm/h or 50 to 100 mm daily, alongside wind gusts of 60 to 100 km/h.
On Saturday, October 14, scattered showers are anticipated, predominantly in the afternoon, while Sunday, October 15, is expected to see some sunshine mixed with clouds and a chance of rain in the late afternoon and early evening. Meteorologists believe the extended rainfall is due to a low-pressure area along the Southeastern coast, which is funneling moisture from the northern regions into Minas Gerais, thereby enhancing precipitation levels. Authorities are advising residents to remain cautious and adhere to safety guidelines to minimize the risk of disasters caused by potential landslides due to these adverse weather conditions.
