Eight tankers distribute potable water in Babahoyo to those affected by the rains
Eight tankers are distributing potable water in Babahoyo to help those affected by severe rainfall and flooding.
In Babahoyo, Ecuador, eight tankers, with support from the Red Cross, have begun distributing potable water in areas heavily affected by recent heavy rains. The ongoing winter season has led to significant flooding, leaving large parts of the capital of Los RÃos province under water. According to the Risk Management Secretariat, about 800 people have been directly impacted by the flood conditions.
Preliminary estimates reveal that around 200 homes have been affected, alongside four public facilities, which include the CNEL Electric Substation and the 24 de Mayo Municipal Market. Commercial locales and supermarkets have also suffered damage, emphasizing the widespread impact of the floods. Additionally, approximately 500 meters of roads have been compromised, further complicating the emergency response and recovery efforts in the region.
The National Risk Management Secretariat, working in coordination with local authorities and the Association of Ecuadorian Municipalities (AME), is overseeing the distribution of water to ensure safe drinking water is available for residents. The initiative to deploy eight tankers aims to alleviate the immediate water shortages faced by the affected residents of Babahoyo amidst the ongoing crisis caused by the adverse weather conditions.
