Winter is Not Over
Despite recent warm temperatures in southern Finland, meteorologists caution that winter conditions are still possible.
March has seen exceptionally warm weather in southern Finland, with temperature records for the month being broken multiple times, including a reading of +12.5 degrees Celsius in Parikkala. Such warm temperatures are unusual for this time of year, typically not reached until mid-April. Amid the warm trend, many are tempted to switch to summer tires and prepare for spring grilling, but meteorologists advise caution.
Christian Roine, on-duty meteorologist for Foreca, warns that winter is not necessarily behind us despite the current pleasant conditions. The warm weather will continue on Sunday in southern and eastern Finland, with widespread temperatures above +10 degrees Celsius. However, the western coastline and regions like Ostrobothnia are expected to experience rain, moving towards Kainuu and northeastern Finland, where temperatures will drop significantly.
As the weather remains unpredictable, it is essential to take precautions as colder conditions could still return. The current weather pattern reflects the transitional phase between winter and spring, and while residents may be tempted to embrace the warmer temperatures, they should be prepared for the possibility of winter returning before spring settles in permanently.
