Winter continues - It is about to be the coldest here

Cold weather persists throughout southern Finland during the skiing holiday week, with temperatures around freezing and stronger winds expected mid-week.

Finland is experiencing a prolonged cold spell as a high-pressure system remains stationary above the country. According to Foreca's latest weather blog, this week will see cold conditions continue, particularly during the southern skiing holiday week. Initially, winds will be mild, but they will strengthen, especially in central parts of the country on Tuesday and Wednesday, making the cold feel more intense. Daily temperatures will hover around minus 10 degrees Celsius in the afternoons, while areas along the western coast may rise slightly above freezing. In Lapland, temperatures are even lower, with the northern regions seeing around minus 20 degrees Celsius.

Nighttime weather is expected to be calm and cold, with potential for temperatures to drop to minus 30 degrees Celsius in clear areas. On Friday, light snow accumulation of a few centimeters is forecasted in eastern Finland. There are no significant changes in daytime temperatures, although a biting northeast wind will intensify the cold. The weekend will bring clearer weather across the country as snow showers move southeast. Generally, sunny weather is anticipated, offering beautiful but frigid winter days ahead.

This cold snap poses implications for winter activities and safety, as residents prepare for both outdoor enjoyment and the challenges that harsh conditions can bring. Additional snow may enhance winter sports opportunities in the region, but the extreme cold underscores the importance of staying warm and cautious during this weather period.
