21 Grass Fires in Latvia in One Week
Latvian firefighters have responded to 21 grass fires in just one week, attributing the decline in such incidents over the past decade to wetter weather conditions rather than changes in public behavior.
This week, Latvia has reported 21 incidents of grass fires, marking an unusual spike despite a significant reduction in cases over the last decade. The Latvian Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) indicated that this increase in fires is not due to a change in the public's burning habits but largely attributed to the recent wetter weather conditions, which have helped to contain the flames. The first grass fire of the year occurred on March 6th in the Talsi region, where firefighters battled a blaze covering 400 square meters. An administrative process has also been initiated for illegal burning in Tukums.
