Aviación Tecnológica S.A. (Aviatsa), a Honduran airline, recently completed its inaugural flight carrying 118 Haitians to Brazil after they were detained by the Federal Police at Viracopos International Airport due to documentation issues. The airline operates a modest fleet consisting of two Boeing 737-200 aircraft and has received authorization from Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) to conduct non-regular passenger and cargo flights. This flight marks a significant milestone for the airline which, until now, had only executed cargo operations between Honduras and Brazil.

Débora Pinter Moreira, the legal representative of Aviatsa in Brazil, clarified that this trip was the first of its kind for the company, aimed at aiding refugees seeking asylum in Brazil. Although the Federal Police alleged that some passengers possessed falsified visas, Moreira asserted that Aviatsa was unaware of such claims at the time of the flight. The situation remains precarious for the refugees, as the Federal Police had initially ordered their reboarding for return to their point of origin, based on the documentation claims.
