Haitians slept on chairs and mattresses in a reserved room after plane was held in Viracopos

Haitian immigrants detained at Viracopos International Airport in Brazil spent the night in a reserved room due to documentation issues.

A group of Haitian immigrants has been held at Viracopos International Airport in Campinas, São Paulo since Thursday morning due to documentation problems. The situation has led them to sleep on chairs and mattresses in a reserved area of the terminal, as they await the start of their admission process into Brazil. Images show the group struggling but remaining hopeful amidst their uncertain circumstances.

Among those detained are the stepdaughters of Louis Yinder, an immigrant from Haiti currently residing in Santa Catarina, who arrived at the airport hoping to bring them home. Yinder expressed his frustration regarding the hold-up, noting that his relatives possess valid passports and visas. He mentioned that they were informed by the Federal Police that their release would not be possible for unclear reasons, leaving Yinder in a state of worry and confusion about the situation.

Despite their circumstances, Yinder reported that his relatives have been provided with food and appear to be in good condition while they await resolution. This incident highlights the complexities surrounding immigration in Brazil, particularly for people trying to reunite with family members, as well as the bureaucratic obstacles that can arise even when legal documentation is in order.
