Gas Network Begins Replacing All Remote-Readable Meters
Gas Network company has started to replace all remote-readable meters for its clients as mandated by law.
The Gas Network company in Estonia is embarking on a four-year project to replace all remote-readable gas meters for its clients, in compliance with legal requirements. This initiative comes in response to a significant reduction in gas consumption over the last decade; however, expected future projects, such as the introduction of a gas power plant, may reverse this trend and increase demand again. The company will replace approximately 15,000 meters, enhancing the accuracy of consumption readings in the process.
The ongoing meter replacement, which commenced in March, is designed not only to comply with regulations but also to protect consumers against potential scams. The company has reported instances of fraud and has emphasized that during the meter exchange, no payment information or sensitive personal data will be requested from customers. Triinu Tamm, the CEO of the Gas Network, stated that they will inform clients in advance about the meter replacements to help avert potential scams involving impersonators.
Operating a gas distribution network of 1,500 kilometers and serving around 45,000 consumers, the Gas Network plays a crucial role in Estonia's energy landscape. The companyβs proactive measures in upgrading its infrastructure demonstrate a commitment to consumer safety and regulatory compliance, while preparing for any future increases in gas demand driven by new energy projects.
