On Thursday, nine people were injured in road traffic accidents across Latvia, with a total of 121 incidents reported.

On Thursday, Latvia witnessed a concerning uptick in road traffic incidents, with nine individuals reported injured. According to information from the State Police shared with the LETA agency, the overall number of accidents reached 121, out of which eight involved injuries. The incidents included a notable case where an electric scooter rider was among the injured. This incident highlights ongoing road safety concerns as urban areas adapt to newer forms of transportation like scooters.

In addition to the injuries, the State Police also reported taking significant enforcement actions during the same 24-hour period, issuing 533 administrative violation protocols related to traffic regulations. This included 200 citations for speeding, reflecting a persistent issue with drivers not adhering to speed limits, and six cases of aggressive driving. Such enforcement actions are critical in maintaining safety on the roads, especially as traffic volumes fluctuate.

Furthermore, the police apprehended four drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, with three of those cases being serious enough to initiate criminal proceedings. This underscores a serious challenge regarding drunk driving in the country, contributing to the overall danger posed to other road users. The police's active measures aim to deter such behavior and enhance road safety, particularly in the context of the increasing number of road users during festive or busy periods.
