Lens-shaped Clouds Over Seoraksan... A 'Wonder of Nature' Created by Terrain and Airflow
A stunning lens-shaped cloud formation was captured at Seoraksan, showcasing the interaction of the mountainous terrain and atmospheric currents.
On July 4, during the early dawn hours near Mudeungnyeong at Seoraksan in Gangwon Province, a remarkable photograph titled 'Whirlwind of Clouds' was taken, highlighting the unique lens-shaped clouds formed due to the combination of strong atmospheric currents and the mountain's geographical features. The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) announced the winners of its 43rd climate photo and content contest on the 13th, emphasizing the theme 'Talking about Climate through Records of Daily Life.' This year, the contest received a total of 3,392 submissions which were rigorously evaluated by experts, public verification, and climate phenomenon assessments.
The awarded photos will be exhibited for free starting from March 23, in honor of World Meteorological Day, at various locations including the Expo Plaza in Daejeon, the Suwon Climate Change Experience Center, Busan City Hall Station, and the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration. Among the notable works, the gold prize-winning photo titled 'Horse in the Snow' shows Jeju horses braving harsh winter conditions, while the silver awards featured stunning atmospheric phenomena like wave clouds and radiant light effects captured in different locations across Korea. The contest not only highlights the beauty of natural weather phenomena but also engages the public in discussions on climate change, reflecting the increasing importance of weather awareness in society.
