Government strict on cylinder black market, monitoring team will keep an eye; high-level meeting
The Kerala government is taking significant steps to address the shortage of non-domestic gas cylinders, including forming monitoring committees and requesting increased allocation from the central government.
In response to the shortage of non-domestic cooking gas cylinders in Kerala, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held a high-level meeting to devise strategies for tackling this crisis. The state government plans to request an increase in the allocation of non-domestic gas cylinders from the central government to better serve the needs of various institutions and businesses that rely on them.
To enhance monitoring and distribution of gas cylinders, the government is establishing a state-level monitoring committee, along with district-level committees led by collectors. Additionally, a specialized dashboard will be developed to track daily consumption and distribution of both domestic and non-domestic gas cylinders, aiming to prevent any instances of black market activities.
A crucial aspect of the meeting was the establishment of enforcement teams to combat black market sales and hoarding of gas cylinders, particularly underlined by the need to prioritize distribution to essential services such as hospitals, orphanages, senior homes, public kitchens, and factory canteens during the crisis. These efforts indicate a proactive approach by the Kerala government to ensure that essential services remain well supplied amid rising concerns over cylinder shortages.
