In a recent press conference, Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma informed the public that the average daily booking for gas cylinders has risen sharply from 50-55 lakh to around 75-76 lakh, prompting the government to take action against panicking consumers. Sharma emphasized the importance of not giving in to rumors and advised citizens to refrain from panic buying, which could exacerbate the situation further.

Furthermore, to address consumer concerns, public-sector oil marketing companies are enhancing their support services by increasing call center capacity to handle grievances. The capacity has risen to 400 seats, alongside an increase in telephone lines to 50, allowing for more efficient communication with the public. This step reflects a proactive approach by the government to manage the rising tensions in the gas supply chain amid fears stemming from international conflicts.

In addition, the government is actively combatting black marketing and hoarding practices within the gas supply sector. The Ministry of Petroleum is set to take stringent measures against those engaging in illegal activities to ensure that gas cylinders remain accessible and affordable for consumers.
