Eleven Estonian athletes are set to compete in the European Winter Throwing Championships in Cyprus this weekend, showcasing talents in disciplines like javelin and hammer throw.

This upcoming weekend, Cyprus will host the European Winter Throwing Championships, featuring eleven athletes from Estonia. The event provides an opportunity for athletes to demonstrate their skills in various throwing disciplines, with a particular focus on javelin and hammer throw. The Estonian Athletics Association has emphasized the significance of this competition as it serves as a testing ground for the athletes ahead of the more competitive summer season.

Leading the Estonian javelin throwers is Gedly Tugi, who has been in early-season form, having previously competed in Slovenia where she recorded a throw of over 58 meters under challenging weather conditions. Her personal best throw of 60.65 meters this year adds optimism for her performance in Nicosia, as she strives to improve upon her personal records. Alongside her, U23 representative Johanna Elisabeth Ader will also compete in the javelin category, while Kunnar Erich Viisel and U23 athlete Tristan Aik Sild will participate in men's javelin.

In hammer throw, Adam Kelly has also kicked off his season early with a solid performance recorded in Sweden at 72.59 meters. His personal record stands at 75.81 meters, indicating potential for further improvement this season. Alar Reiljan, competing in the U23 hammer throw category, completes the Estonian contingent in this discipline. The results from this competition could have implications for their future performances as they look towards the summer championships ahead, highlighting the importance of these early competitions in setting the stage for the rest of the athletic season.
