Step Forward expands access to orthoses, prostheses, and mobility in 23 cities in PI

The Step Forward program in Brazil aims to improve accessibility and mobility for residents of 23 municipalities by providing free orthoses, prostheses, and mobility aids.

The Piauí Health Secretariat (Sesapi) has completed the first phase of the Step Forward Program in the Cocais health territory, which significantly expands access to essential mobility aids for residents in 23 municipalities including Piripiri and Esperantina. This initiative is a collaboration between the Federal Government and state authorities, designed to promote greater accessibility and mobility for individuals in need of prosthetic devices and mobility aids.

During the first phase of the program, meetings were held to educate municipal representatives about the benefits of the Step Forward initiative and outline the operational details for patient enrollment. This step is crucial for raising awareness and ensuring that local administrations are aligned with the program objectives, which emphasizes the importance of facilitating access to mobility assistance for residents.

As part of the program, municipalities will work together to organize and manage the referral process for patients who will receive support in the upcoming second phase. The goal is to ensure that individuals who need orthoses, prostheses, and mobility aids can receive these services effectively and efficiently, thereby improving their quality of life and enhancing their ability to participate fully in their communities.
