Cleaning Has Started in the Streets of Riga After Winter
Riga has begun street cleaning to remove sand and dust left from winter, with efforts set to continue until all roads and sidewalks are cleaned.
Starting from last week, Riga has initiated a comprehensive street cleaning operation to collect sand and dust that lingered after the winter season. This effort, as reported by the city's external communications department, involves various types of machinery and manual labor, with the commitment from the municipal leadership that all roads and sidewalks will be cleaned thoroughly. The operation is being carried out with 23 machinery units engaged in the cleaning of roadways, cycling paths, and bridges, complemented by nine labor brigades to assist with the work.
In order to minimize disruptions to traffic, cleaning of bridges and major thoroughfares is primarily conducted at night. During the day, smaller neighborhood streets are tackled. To mitigate the formation of dust clouds during dry weather conditions, wetting techniques are employed for cleaning tasks. This includes the use of 18 machinery units equipped with irrigation systems specifically for sidewalk cleaning. The mixed machinery employed for pedestrian zones ensures both coarse and fine dirt is effectively removed, contributing to the city's overall cleanliness and maintenance.
