Riga City Council promises street cleaning all day

The Riga City Council announced that street and sidewalk cleaning will continue throughout the day with 112 units of machinery involved due to ongoing snowfall.

In response to heavy snowfall, the Riga City Council has mobilized 112 units of machinery for street and sidewalk cleaning operations across the capital. The council's External Communication Department reported that, as of the night, the roads have been treated with anti-skid materials to ensure safety, with cleaning efforts beginning early in the morning in the historic center of Riga. Additional sidewalk cleaning in other parts of the city is scheduled to start around noon.

The cleaning process is crucial as weather forecasts from Latvia's Environment, Geology, and Meteorology Centre indicate that snowfall will persist into the evening, necessitating continued efforts to ensure safe transportation and pedestrian conditions. With a total of 1,136 kilometers of roads to maintain, the city's services will prioritize major thoroughfares followed by secondary streets to address accessibility during adverse weather.

Municipal officials are closely monitoring the situation and will adjust their cleaning operations based on evolving conditions. This proactive response from the Riga City Council reflects their commitment to maintaining public safety and accessibility, particularly during severe weather situations that affect daily life in the city.
