The accumulated snow is being removed from the streets of Riga
Accumulated snow is being gradually removed from the streets of Riga by city authorities using over 140 pieces of machinery.
The city of Riga has initiated a snow removal operation from its streets as the winter season progresses. The External Communications Department of the Riga City Council has reported that over 140 pieces of equipment have been engaged in maintaining roadways, bridges, bike paths, and sidewalks throughout the week. To ensure the ongoing accessibility of streets, snow that has accumulated during the winter was previously piled in locations where it would not obstruct traffic or pedestrian movement.
The snow removal is being carried out during nighttime hours to minimize disruption to daytime traffic. This effort includes clearing snow from intersections to prevent blockages and to improve drainage channels, as the melting snow needs to be properly directed to the stormwater drainage system. Thirteen vehicles and dump trucks are focused on clearing snow from various road sections in the Pārdaugava area, including Kalnciema, Melnsila, Dzirciema, Mārupe, Tēriņu, Graudu streets, as well as Vienības gatvē, Uzvaras and Anniņmuiža boulevard, Kurzemes prospekt, and other locations around the capital.
This snow removal task is essential not only for ensuring traffic flow but also for public safety, as it maintains clear passageways for pedestrians and helps manage water runoff as spring approaches. The city's proactive measures in handling snow accumulation demonstrate its commitment to maintaining infrastructure and ensuring the well-being of its residents during adverse weather conditions.
