Snow clearing works in Riga will continue over the weekend
Snow clearing operations in Riga have been ongoing throughout the night and will continue during the weekend, involving numerous vehicles in the effort.
In Riga, snow clearing operations have been extensive, working through the night and set to continue into the weekend due to a snowfall impacting the capital. A total of 87 vehicles have been deployed, as reported by the Riga city municipality's External Communication Department. The authorities emphasize the need for continuous operations, particularly on bridges and major roads, to maintain mobility in the city during adverse weather.
The head of the Maintenance Division at the Department of Outdoor Spaces and Mobility, Viktors Admidiņš, explained that street clearing efforts are prioritized during snow events. Throughout the night and early morning, 45 units were specifically assigned for road treatments, while 42 units began sidewalk cleaning operations at 3 AM. The focus has been on high-traffic areas for pedestrians, ensuring safety as residents move about the city.
Further efforts are underway to clear the sidewalks in the historic center and Old Town of Riga, where special non-slip materials are being applied early in the day. Additionally, the snow removal process continues with around 1,200 cubic meters of snow already dispatched from the streets, reflecting the city's quick response to the current winter conditions.
