Police carried out the "Seatbelts" operation at the seaside: also caught drunk e-scooter drivers

Lithuanian police conducted a safety operation targeting drivers, resulting in several arrests for driving under the influence and other road violations.

On March 11, Lithuanian police implemented an operation called "Saugos diržai" ("Seatbelts") aimed at enhancing road safety along the seaside. During this operation, officers stopped multiple drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, revealing alarming blood alcohol levels in several cases. For instance, a driver of a Ford born in 1988 was found with a blood alcohol level of 0.56, while another Opel driver born in 1990 had a level of 0.54. In total, three drivers were identified as driving impaired on that day.

In addition to the intoxicated car drivers, the operation uncovered issues with electric micro-mobility vehicle operators. Two e-scooter drivers were apprehended for severe alcohol intoxication, highlighting a growing concern about safety regulations among users of such devices. One of these individuals, a 1971-born driver, was found with a blood alcohol level of 1.06, and was also not wearing a helmet, while another e-scooter operator born in 1977 registered a level of 1.07. These incidents reflect the urgent need for stricter enforcement of safety rules not only for car operators but also for those using alternative transport means.

Overall, the police's operation revealed serious violations beyond alcohol intoxication, including unlicensed driving and misuse of mobile devices while driving. Out of the 6 inspected drivers, several did not possess valid licenses, and many others disregarded traffic signals. This underscores the ongoing challenges for law enforcement in maintaining road safety and protecting everyone on the road, confirming the necessity for such operations to ensure compliance with regulations.
