Fraudulent IRCTC agent sold over 500 fake tickets, caught in the act

A major fraudster was arrested by the Railway Protection Force for scamming passengers with fake tickets at the Ahmedabad railway station.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has arrested a significant fraudster who was cheating passengers at Ahmedabad railway station by issuing fake tickets. The suspect was observed roaming suspiciously around the station premises, prompting the RPF's Centralized Passenger Data System (CPDS) team to keep an eye on him. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that he had a history of approaching travelers near the Ahmedabad railway reservation center, posing as an authorized agent of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

The arrested individual, identified as Upendra Dwivedi, exploited his guise as an IRCTC agent to gain the trust of passengers, convincing them that he could provide them with confirmed tickets easily. This manipulation allowed him to collect money from unsuspecting travelers, who believed they were dealing with an official railway ticket agent. Evidence gathered during the inquiry confirmed that he had been issuing counterfeit tickets for an extended period.

The case raises significant concerns about the extent of ticket fraud in India's railway system and highlights the need for increased vigilance and security measures to protect travelers. It stresses the importance of awareness among passengers who should verify the credentials of agents claiming to provide railway services. The RPF's successful operation in apprehending Dwivedi is a reminder of the ongoing battle against such fraudulent activities in public transport sectors.
