Lasmane will be the only representative of Latvia at the world indoor athletics championship

Rūta Kate Lasmane will represent Latvia in the upcoming World Indoor Athletics Championship, being the only athlete from Latvia to qualify for the event.

Rūta Kate Lasmane, a triple jumper, has been confirmed as the sole representative of Latvia at this year's World Indoor Athletics Championships, as reported by the Latvian Athletics Union (LVS). Despite none of the other Latvian athletes qualifying for the championship, Latvia was assigned a single quota which will be utilized by entering Lasmane into the competition.

This season, Lasmane's best jump in the triple jump event is 13.79 meters, placing her in a joint 33rd position on the world ranking list. The 25-year-old athlete's personal record stands at 14.47 meters, which she achieved in 2024. The upcoming championship will take place from March 20 to 22 in Toruń, Poland, where she will compete against the world's best indoor track and field athletes.

Last year, Latvia was represented at the indoor world championship by pole vaulter Valters Kreišs, middle-distance runner Uģis Jocis, and sprinter Roberts Jānis Zālītis. Lasmane's participation signifies an important opportunity for Latvia to showcase its athletics talent on the global stage. As the indoor championship approaches, there is heightened anticipation for her performance as she aims to make a mark in the competition.
