Triple jumper Lasmane finishes 12th at indoor world championship; Duplantis triumphs in pole vault
Latvian triple jumper Lasmane finished 12th in the indoor world championship while Duplantis won gold in the pole vault.
At the indoor world championships, Latvian triple jumper, Lasmane, had a challenging performance, finishing in 12th place. She failed to achieve a valid jump in her first attempt but managed to jump 13.23 meters in her second attempt. However, her third jump of 13.22 meters did not improve her overall standings, thus preventing her from qualifying for further rounds. Among 17 competitors, Lasmane’s best season result prior to this championship was 13.79 meters, which she achieved at the NCAA conference championships in the United States. As a result of her performance, Lasmane was the sole athlete representing Latvia at the event, given that no other Latvian athlete qualified based on their results.
In the pole vault event, French athlete Duplantis showcased his status as the favorite by securing the gold medal with a remarkable jump of 6.25 meters. He successfully cleared all his attempts without any errors. Duplantis’s main rival, Greek athlete Emanuil Karalis, attempted to clear 6.05 meters, progressing to 6.20 meters and 6.25 meters, but was unsuccessful in his subsequent attempts, thus remaining in the silver medal position. This victory reinforces Duplantis’s reputation in the event, as he continues to dominate in the pole vault discipline.
