At least 5 killed, more than 100 injured in Russian attacks on Ukraine over the past day
Recent Russian drone attacks on Ukraine resulted in at least five deaths and over 100 injuries within 24 hours.
In a significant escalation of violence, Ukrainian authorities reported that at least five people were killed and more than 100 others were injured due to Russian attacks on March 12. The Air Force indicated that Russia launched a total of 94 attack drones, predominantly Shahed-types, of which Ukrainian air defense systems successfully intercepted 77. This wave of drone strikes has underscored the ongoing threat posed by Russian military actions and the resilience of Ukrainian defense measures.
Areas most affected included Kharkiv Oblast, where three fatalities were confirmed alongside 16 injuries, including that of a child. The strikes targeted urban areas in Kharkiv city, specifically the Shevchenkivskyi and Kyivskyi districts, emphasizing the danger to civilians. The diverse types of munitions used—including guided aerial bombs and multiple drone variants—suggests a coordinated military operation aimed at inflicting maximum damage and instilling fear among the local population.
In addition to the casualties in Kharkiv, Kherson Oblast also faced significant attacks, where one person was killed and 23 were wounded, again including a child. Governor Oleksandr Prokudin detailed that Russian forces executed air strikes and artillery bombardments this past day, further highlighting the severe humanitarian implications of the ongoing conflict. As such assaults continue, they raise alarm about the increasing desperation of the situation for civilians caught within the crossfire, alongside the broader geopolitical ramifications of sustained hostilities between Ukraine and Russia.
