This weekend spring will challenge winter and stormy winds will bring a heat wave

A weather forecast indicates a combination of spring-like temperatures and heavy winds across Finland this weekend.

The upcoming weekend in Finland will see a notable shift in the weather, as spring is set to challenge winter temperatures across the country. Starting Thursday, the northern regions will experience mixed precipitation, including sleet and snow, while the western areas are expected to clear up by evening. On Friday, rainfall will mainly affect the Pohjanmaa region, whereas the southern areas are likely to enjoy sunnier conditions with temperatures soaring to around 10 degrees Celsius. This transition signals the hope of spring's arrival despite lingering winter conditions.

Meteorologist Aleksi Lohtander warns of strong gusty winds accompanying these weather changes, especially in the southwestern and western coastal regions of Finland. As a small-scale storm approaches, wind gusts are expected to reach over 20 meters per second. Although the ground in much of Finland remains frozen, which may mitigate some wind damage, residents are advised to secure outdoor furniture that may have been brought outside in anticipation of warmer weather.

In the western maritime areas, the stormy winds will prompt official warnings, and forecasts predict varying precipitation across the country over the weekend with rain likely in the southern parts by Saturday. This weather pattern highlights the dynamic transition between seasons in Finland and serves as a reminder of the power of nature during this time of year, as residents prepare for the impacts of both winter remnants and the budding spring warmth.
