Caravan brings free Pap and HIV tests to neighborhoods in Quito
The Quito Municipality has launched a campaign providing free Pap smears and HIV tests to designated neighborhoods in the city.
The Municipality of Quito inaugurated a campaign called 'Caravanas por la salud de la Mujer,' aimed at preventing catastrophic diseases related to Pap smears and HIV. The initiative will run from March to December and features two mobile units along with a fixed point of care, allowing residents to access these essential medical tests free of charge. The services will be available at diverse community centers known as 'Casas Somos'.
The campaign's first outreach took place in the Nueva Aurora neighborhood, where 211 residents received medical attention, including 99 Pap tests and 79 HIV tests. Among the HIV tests, 69 were conducted on women and 10 on men, highlighting the initiative's focus on women's health while also catering to men's health needs. This data reflects a positive initial response to the program and raises the importance of accessible healthcare services.
The schedule for the campaign includes visits to various neighborhoods, such as Calderón, Quitumbe, and Manuela Sáenz from March 11 to 13, operating from 08:00 to 13:00. This effort not only supports public health by increasing awareness and screening for preventable diseases but also underscores the city's commitment to improving health outcomes for marginalized communities. By facilitating these services directly in neighborhoods, the initiative seeks to break down barriers to healthcare access and promote early detection of serious health issues.
