Ship in Belém: See the arrival of the cruise ship and understand the choice of terminals
Belém welcomed a cruise ship carrying over 200 German tourists at the Icoaraci terminal, highlighting its growing significance as a tourist destination.
On April 11, Belém received another cruise ship, the Hanseatic Spirit, which docked at the Hydroviary and Tourist Terminal of Icoaraci, a district of the Pará capital. This vessel carried more than 200 passengers, predominantly German tourists, who disembarked to explore local culinary offerings and visit iconic sites such as the Ver-o-Peso market and Fort of Presépio. After their day of exploration, the tourists returned to the ship, which was set to continue its voyage to Santarém.
The rise in cruise ship traffic in Belém is attributed to the city enhancing its profile as a tourist destination, particularly in light of the upcoming COP 30 conference. The increased attention has led to more ships choosing Belém as a stop on their itineraries, demonstrating the potential for local economic benefits from tourism. The Hanseatic Spirit’s journey started in Europe and included stops along the Brazilian coast and the Amazon before heading to Iquitos, Peru, reflecting the growing interest in majestic regional explorations.
The selection of terminals for cruise ships in Belém underscores the city’s strategic positioning in the Amazon region. With the presence of international tourists and the economic implications for local businesses, it also raises discussions on how to sustainably manage this influx while preserving the unique cultural and environmental attributes of the region. As travel and tourism continue to evolve, Belém seeks to reinforce its status as a key player in the cruise industry.
