Kaimar Vagul won the Estonian ski jumping championships despite subpar jumps and the absence of his main competitor, Artti Aigro.
Kaimar Vagul triumphed at the Estonian ski jumping championships held in Tehvandi, clinching the title despite his underwhelming performances. Vagul achieved distances of 90.5 meters and 91.5 meters in the two rounds, scoring a total of 237 points, which secured him the top spot in both the men's absolute rankings and the men's junior category. Following Vagul in the absolute category were Martti NΓ΅mme and Fred Gustavson, with NΓ΅mme jumping 88 meters and 88.5 meters for 210 points, and Gustavson registering 80.5 and 90 meters for 194.5 points.
During the competition, Vagul noted the challenges of the jumps, stating, "The competition jumps did not work out well on this hill. Despite the unsuccessful jumps, I still managed to become the Estonian champion." His victory was further highlighted by the fact that top competitor Artti Aigro could not participate due to commitments in the World Cup series. Vagul expressed happiness over his championship title but lamented the absence of Aigro, mentioning that it would have made for a more exciting contest for the first place, indicating both rivalry and respect between the athletes.
