Armed Forces seize 1.6 tons of drugs at sea
In a recent operation, the Armed Forces of Ecuador confiscated 1.6 tons of illegal substances from the sea.
The Armed Forces of Ecuador recently conducted a maritime operation that resulted in the seizure of 1.6 tons of drugs, discovered in 67 packages found in the sea. These substances were reportedly discarded by drug trafficking organizations attempting to evade stringent maritime controls. The operation was carried out with intelligence support from the National Intelligence Center, showcasing a coordinated effort to combat drug trafficking in the region.
The confiscated drugs were located in Ecuador's Exclusive Economic Zone, approximately 130 nautical miles off the coast. This intervention by the Ecuadorian Navy, in partnership with the National Police, reflects the government's commitment to curbing the influence of criminal economies tied to drug trafficking. The Ministry of Defense highlighted the significance of disrupting these operations as it directly impacts the financial structures of narcotraffickers.
This seizure is part of broader operations aimed at protecting Ecuador's national waters and maintaining security against illegal drug activities. As pressures from law enforcement increase, criminal organizations are adapting by abandoning their drugs in the ocean, indicating a shift in their operational strategies. The Ecuadorian government's proactive stance in these matters emphasizes the ongoing battle against drug-related crimes and the need for continued vigilance and international collaboration in combating drug trafficking issues.
