Latvia Post has announced the implementation of an identity verification system in its parcel locker network, aimed at allowing recipients to collect individually addressed packages at their convenience. Utilizing methods such as Smart-ID and eSignature not only confirms the identity of the recipient but also enables the safe handling of high-security shipments, which are particularly relevant for sectors like telecommunications, finance, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare. This change is expected to enhance the overall security and accessibility of postal services in Latvia.

With the introduction of this system, recipients can now receive prescription medications through parcel lockers, complying with regulatory requirements while providing flexible access to postal services beyond regular business hours. The new feature is designed to facilitate the delivery process for business clients who have signed agreements with Latvia Post, ensuring that sensitivity and compliance are maintained in the handling of secure shipments.

Currently, Latvia Post operates a total of 440 parcel lockers across the country, with 66 located indoors and 374 in outdoor settings. The integration of identity verification represents a significant advancement in the postal service’s capability to cater to evolving consumer needs for security and convenience, while also expanding the viability of postal lockers for various types of sensitive shipments.
