Lula ties with Flávio and Tarcísio in the second round, points out Meio Ideia research
Brazilian President Lula is in a statistical tie with Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas in potential second-round matchups for the 2026 presidential elections, according to a new survey.
According to a recent survey by Meio Ideia, Brazilian President Lula is statistically tied with Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas concerning the second-round matchups for the upcoming 2026 presidential election. The poll indicates that in a direct confrontation between Lula and Bolsonaro, Lula has 47% of the voting intentions compared to Bolsonaro's 45%. Similarly, in a matchup with Governor de Freitas, Lula leads slightly with 46% against 45%. These margins fall within the poll's margin of error of 2.5 percentage points, meaning that the competition is quite close.
The research involved 1,500 Brazilian citizens and was conducted through telephone interviews from the 6th to the 10th of November, 2023. With a confidence interval of 95%, this survey has been officially registered with the Electoral Justice under protocol BR-00386/2026-Brazil. Aside from the close matchups with Bolsonaro and De Freitas, Lula demonstrated a stronger lead against other potential candidates such as Ratinho Jr. and Romeu Zema, marking 47% against 41% and 46% against 38%, respectively.
These findings are significant as they outline the evolving dynamics of Brazil's political landscape heading into the presidential elections. The close ties with major rivals indicate a highly competitive race for Lula, particularly considering the previous political tensions surrounding the Bolsonaro family and the right-wing parties. This scenario is likely to influence strategies for both Lula and his opponents as they prepare for what is anticipated to be a heated electoral battle.
