The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will investigate what salary should be paid to employees: up to 40 thousand euros will be allocated for this
The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to allocate up to 40,000 euros to objectively assess the proper salary for employees working in diplomatic missions and consular offices abroad.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (URM) is taking steps to determine the appropriate wages for employees working under employment contracts at its diplomatic and consular posts, as well as special missions. To carry out this assessment, the ministry will allocate up to 40,000 euros. This move is part of an effort to ensure fair and competitive salaries for personnel who serve in various foreign cities around the world.
As highlighted by the URM, the assessment will involve collecting data on the median annual salaries for specified job functions in 53 foreign cities, both before and after taxes. This process aims to establish a benchmark that aligns the salaries of Lithuanian employees abroad with the market standards in relevant locations. Additionally, the ministry noted that the average salary within URM increased by 8.75% over the past year, indicating a growing need to regularly review and adjust compensation structures.
The relevance of this initiative cannot be understated, as it reflects Lithuania's commitment to ensuring that its public servants are compensated fairly while working internationally. This could also enhance the attractiveness of careers within the ministry, as competitive salaries could draw more talent to public service, ultimately benefiting Lithuania's representation abroad.
