According to the updated selection process, 15 ambassadors from Lithuania will be appointed this year

Lithuania's Foreign Ministry has announced a new selection process for ambassadors, allowing for 15 appointments this year without restrictions on the number of positions candidates can apply for.

The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry has introduced an updated selection process for appointing ambassadors, which came into effect last September. Under this new framework, candidates can apply for an unlimited number of ambassadorial positions, simplifying the application process by removing the requirement for a proposed activity program; instead, candidates only need to submit a motivated application and a CV. Only those shortlisted candidates will need to provide a detailed proposed activity program.

Furthermore, the selection criteria have also been broadened to include not only those with the rank of ministerial advisor but also department directors, group leaders, and heads of consular offices with at least two years of experience in relevant roles. This inclusivity aims to widen the pool of candidates for ambassadorial positions and ensures that experienced professionals can contribute to Lithuania's diplomatic missions.

The Foreign Ministry's chancellor also has the authority to extend the selection process if candidates from a single gender submit applications for the open positions. Additionally, there is now a possibility for those reaching retirement age to occupy ambassadorial roles, reflecting a more flexible approach towards age demographics in Lithuanian diplomacy.
