Enugu Air receives AOC, set for operations

Enugu Air has received its Air Operator Certificate, allowing it to launch domestic flights and expand regionally.

Enugu Air has officially obtained its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), paving the way for the state-owned airline to commence domestic flight operations and eventually expand to regional destinations. The AOC was awarded on Tuesday at the NCAA headquarters in Abuja, where the Director-General, Chris Najomo, highlighted this achievement as a notable milestone for Nigeria's aviation sector. He noted that the certification process, which typically takes between 15 to 24 months, was completed by Enugu Air in just over five months, demonstrating the airline's efficiency and commitment to meeting regulatory standards.

The AOC certification is critical for any airline as it ensures that the operator complies with necessary safety and operational regulations. During the intensive evaluation, the NCAA assessed various operational aspects, and Enugu Air successfully met all requirements, which showcased its preparedness to operate safely within the Nigerian airspace. The airline is starting its operations with a fleet of six aircraft, which marks a robust entry into the competitive aviation market in Nigeria.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who has been instrumental in the establishment of Enugu Air, expressed pride in this achievement, which signifies not only progress for the airline but also for the economic development of the state. The swift certification and imminent operations of Enugu Air are expected to boost local transportation options, create jobs, and enhance connectivity in the region, making air travel more accessible for the citizens of Enugu State and surrounding areas.
