The Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, has announced an impressive generation of N406.77 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the fiscal year 2025, marking a 125% increase from the previous year's figure of N180.5 billion. This announcement was made by the Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Emmanuel Nnamani, during a press briefing, emphasizing that this growth reflects the state's increasing fiscal resilience and effective revenue management strategies.

Mr. Nnamani highlighted that the state achieved approximately 80% of its IGR projection of N509.9 billion for 2025, indicating strong revenue performance that surpasses prior expectations. The breakdown of revenue sources revealed that non-tax revenue significantly dominated the total collection, contributing N355.2 billion, or 87.4%, while tax revenues added N51.5 billion, accounting for 12.6% of the total.

Moving forward, the Enugu State Government has set an ambitious target of N870 billion for future fiscal years, showcasing a commitment to improve its revenue generation capabilities even further. This approach is seen as crucial for enhancing the state’s economic stability and funding for public services, while also signaling a robust strategy towards capitalizing on its natural resources and reviving previously inactive sectors of the economy.
