A capybara that was attacked by dogs died after being rescued by the Military Police in Maceió, Brazil.

A capybara that suffered multiple injuries from a dog attack succumbed to its wounds after being rescued by the Military Police in Maceió, specifically in the Farol neighborhood. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, with the capybara attacked by three dogs shortly before police arrived at the scene. Local residents witnessed the brutal attack and reported it, prompting the intervention of the Environmental Police Battalion (BPA).

Upon the police's arrival, they managed to safely contain the capybara, which was showing visible signs of distress and injury. The animal was subsequently transported to the Wildlife Animal Rehabilitation Center (CETAS) operated by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) for veterinary care. Unfortunately, despite the efforts to save the capybara, it did not survive the severe injuries inflicted during the dog attack.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of human-animal interactions in urban areas like Maceió, where wild animals can encounter domestic pets in harmful ways. It raises concerns about animal welfare and the responsibilities of pet owners to prevent attacks on wildlife and underscores the need for public awareness regarding the threats that urban environments pose to wild animals.
