VIDEO: capybara pups are rescued after getting lost from their mother in Votorantim
Two capybara pups were rescued in Votorantim, Brazil, one of which died from pneumonia shortly after being found.
In Votorantim, São Paulo, two capybara pups were rescued after becoming separated from their mother on Monday, October 16. One of the pups was suffering from pneumonia and sadly did not survive the rescuers' efforts. The surviving pup was taken in by a local NGO and is currently receiving specialized care, including bottle feeding to help stabilize its health and adapt to a proper diet. The ultimate goal for this pup is to rehabilitate it and eventually reintegrate it into its natural habitat, pending a successful recovery process.
The animals were rescued by the Municipal Guard and handed over to the NGO called Núcleo da Floresta, which specializes in the care of wild animals. They emphasize the importance of treating wild animals with caution and encourage the public to observe their surroundings before trying to intervene. In particular, they advise ensuring that the animal is truly lost, as capybara families can become displaced in urban areas during busy holiday periods, often leading to such situations.
In light of the incident, Núcleo da Floresta also issued a warning regarding the increased traffic of vehicles and people in urban centers during long holidays. This surge can disturb local wildlife, particularly active at night, causing capybara herds to scatter. They urge the public to be vigilant and avoid interacting with wildlife unless certain that intervention is necessary.
