VIDEO: Rain leaves families displaced, overflows rivers, and floods event center in ES

Heavy rain in southern Espírito Santo has caused significant flooding, leading to displaced families and damage to local infrastructure.

On Monday, October 9, intense rainfall hit southern Espírito Santo, Brazil, leading to widespread flooding in the region. Streets and businesses were inundated, particularly in the Serrana and Caparaó areas, with Muniz Freire recording over 100 millimeters of rain in a single hour. The Varginha Stream overflowed, displacing two families and creating hazardous conditions in the city center.

In Domingos Martins, the municipal Civil Defense reported severe impacts on the Morangão Events Center, a popular venue for the annual Strawberry Festival located along the BR-262 highway. The flood waters also affected Avenida Modolo, a road adjacent to the federal highway. As the situation worsened, local officials worked to assess the damage and responded with preventive measures to mitigate further impacts, particularly on the Rota do Lagarto.

By the evening, around 7 PM, the Civil Defense reported that waters were receding and conditions were beginning to normalize in the affected areas. Recovery efforts are underway, focusing on aiding displaced families and preventing future occurrences as the region is prone to such extreme weather events.
