"Litgrid" has completed the reconstruction of a 2.3 million Euro transformer substation in Kupiškis district
The reconstruction of a transformer substation in Kupiškis district by Litgrid aims to enhance electricity supply reliability for local residents and businesses while reducing long-term operational costs.
Litgrid announced the completion of a 2.3 million Euro reconstruction of a transformer substation in Kupiškis district, a critical infrastructure project to improve the reliability of electricity supply for local residents and businesses. The update will not only enhance the overall quality of electricity service but also help in reducing maintenance costs over time. According to Karolis Sabaliauskas, head of Litgrid's Strategic Infrastructure Department, the Subačius substation had been in service for over 40 years without major updates, making this reconstruction essential for meeting current needs.
The reconstruction included significant upgrades to the 110 kV distribution equipment which is crucial for the Kupiškis area's electricity users. The upgraded infrastructure is designed to be more resilient to disruptions, allowing for quicker recovery after any outages, thereby increasing operational efficiency. The contractor for this project was Tetas, which undertook both the design and the upgrade of equipment that had been in use since 1976, effectively modernizing the facility.
This reconstruction aligns with Litgrid’s broader strategy, as the company has announced plans for six additional transformer substation reconstructions across various locations including Vilkaviškis, Šilutė, Panevėžys, Kretinga, and Kupiškis districts, as well as in Šiauliai city. These ongoing improvements signify a commitment to enhancing energy infrastructure in Lithuania, ensuring that the electricity grid is better equipped to support economic development and meet the needs of its consumers.
