Here, 60-year-old power lines are being dismantled - Stockholm's electricity supply is to be secured
In a significant infrastructure effort, Stockholm is investing 30 billion kronor to upgrade its electrical grid, aiming to increase capacity by 60 percent while dismantling old power lines that have served the city for over six decades.
The city of Stockholm is embarking on a major infrastructure project to enhance its electrical grid, which has been strained by increasing demand. This initiative, costing 30 billion kronor, targets a 60 percent boost in capacity by dismantling 44 steel and aluminum poles that have been in operation for over 60 years. The dismantlement of these structures will allow for the recycling of 500 tons of materials and is part of a larger modernization effort that has seen older lines replaced with more robust cables between HΓΆgdalen and Botkyrka. Given warnings from energy supplier Ellevio in 2019 about an impending electricity crisis in the region, this project is crucial for ensuring reliable power supply in the fast-growing city.
