Prosecutors Indict Suspect in 'Gangbuk Motel Murder'... 'Used False Prescription Sleeping Pills'
A 20-year-old woman has been indicted for the murder of two men by administering a drug-infused drink at a motel, leading to serious implications in the Gangbuk area of Seoul.
A 20-year-old woman named Kim So-young has been indicted by the Northern District Prosecutors’ Office for the murders of two men and the causing of unconsciousness in a third, all through the use of a drug-laced beverage. The incident took place in several lodging establishments in the Gangbuk district of Seoul, with the prosecution alleging that Kim used sleeping pills obtained under false pretenses to execute the crimes. Between mid-December last year and early last month, she reportedly mixed her prescribed sedatives with other substances and administered them to her victims, demonstrating premeditated intent in her actions.
Further investigation revealed that Kim had faked Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to acquire the prescription medications that she then misused. Following the first victim’s unconsciousness from the drug cocktail in December, she was confirmed to be aware of the lethality of her actions after checking through ChatGPT about the consequences of overdose. Despite this knowledge, she proceeded to increase the dosages significantly for subsequent attacks, indicating a chilling pattern of recklessness and malice. The authorities have deemed this case particularly egregious, considering factors such as the severity of the crimes and the public's right to information.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the police have identified two more potential victims and continue to explore the full extent of Kim's actions. Just before the indictment, the Prosecutors’ Office revealed her identity, citing the serious and brutal nature of her crimes and the need for public awareness and prevention of recidivism. The final details of the allegations will be determined following the court’s ruling, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the legal processes that will unfold in the following months.
