‘Two Dead in Gangbuk Motel’ Victims Found with Multiple Drugs

Two men in their twenties died after drinking a beverage laced with drugs at a motel in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, with autopsy results revealing multiple drugs in their systems.

In a tragic incident in the Gangbuk district of Seoul, two young men succumbed after consuming a drink mixed with drugs at a motel. The Gangbuk Police Department disclosed on the 13th that forensic examinations conducted by the National Institute of Scientific Investigation confirmed the presence of various drugs in the victims' systems, beyond the originally suspected psychoactive drug benzodiazepines. This revelation intensifies the scrutiny surrounding the case as investigators aim to understand the circumstances leading to their deaths.

The alleged perpetrator, a woman in her twenties, has been linked to the deaths of the two men and another assault on a third man, whom she reportedly supplied a cocktail of benzodiazepines, prescribed for anxiety and sleep difficulties. Notably, both deceased males were found to have been drinking alcohol at the time of their demise, as benzodiazepines can cause severe adverse effects when mixed with alcohol. The suspect acknowledged during police questioning that she was aware of the risks associated with mixing the drug with alcohol when she received her prescription, which raises further concerns regarding her intent.

Initially charged with manslaughter due to insufficient evidence of premeditated murder, the police are reconsidering the charges against her as they uncover that she may have prepared drug-infused drinks in advance. There is an emerging possibility that the case may involve premeditated murder, particularly given the increased quantity of drugs used in her subsequent attacks on the victims. Ongoing investigations include forensic analysis of her mobile phone seized during a search of her residence, as police aim to gather further evidence through profiling and additional inquiries into her actions leading up to this tragic event.
