Korea Cyber University Establishes 'Institute for Sustainability' to Fulfill Social Responsibility in Cyber Education
Korea Cyber University will officially establish the ‘Institute for Sustainability’ on March 1 as a core body to lead ESG management and fulfill its social responsibility in cyber education.
Korea Cyber University has announced the founding of the ‘Institute for Sustainability’ (IFS) set to officially open on March 1. This new institute aims to fulfill the institution's social responsibility in cyber education and to spearhead ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) management within the university. The university's vision is to cultivate future-oriented interdisciplinary talents with insights into sustainability and to step up as a global hub for educational innovation by fulfilling public responsibilities in accordance with international standards.
To encourage specific actions and involvement from faculty and students, the IFS will include practical groups composed of staff and students. This structure is designed to maximize engagement in sustainability initiatives across the campus. Furthermore, Professor Oh Soo-gil, president of the Korean Academy of Sustainable Development and representative of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Korea, has been appointed as the inaugural director of the institute. He is regarded as a suitable leader to drive Korea Cyber University’s innovation based on ESG principles, given his extensive practical experience and policy insights in sustainable development.
In his inaugural remarks, Director Oh emphasized that Korea Cyber University has a role to play in ensuring equitable access to education regardless of time and space, and it must also take a leading role in fulfilling its social responsibilities for a sustainable future. He outlined plans to establish an eco-friendly digital campus infrastructure, contribute to global knowledge sharing, address educational inequality, and enhance transparent governance. Director Oh expressed strong intentions to ensure that students grow into future interdisciplinary talents who deeply understand and practice social value through the activities of the Institute for Sustainability.
