A new fee for mobile phone operator customers starting in April: will be paid monthly

Mobile phone customers in Lithuania will incur a new monthly fee of €0.59 starting April, if they do not process their own payments, as operators are charged for automated billing services.

Starting from April, mobile phone users in Lithuania will face a new monthly fee of €0.59 if they rely on their service operators to process their bill payments. According to Asta Buitkutė, the public relations manager of Tele2, this fee is implemented to cover the costs charged by banks for servicing customer accounts and to manage the growing administrative costs for Tele2 itself. Customers will have the option to avoid this fee by paying their bills directly using the self-service portal.

Furthermore, other operators like Bitė are also implementing similar fees for electronic billing services, which are necessary to offset the administrative costs incurred by these companies when facilitating electronic billing to banks. This trend of charging customers for automated services reflects a shift in the financial model for telecommunications companies, which are adjusting to increased costs from banking fees.

The introduction of this fee highlights a growing trend in the telecommunications industry in Lithuania, where companies are increasingly passing operational costs onto consumers. This could lead to more customers opting to pay their bills manually in order to avoid monthly fees, potentially impacting the revenue models of these mobile service providers and altering customer behaviors.
