DMI issues warning of dense fog across the country
The Danish Meteorological Institute has issued a warning for dense fog affecting nearly all of Denmark from Monday evening through Tuesday morning.
The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has announced a significant weather warning for dense fog that is expected to cover most of Denmark from late Monday evening until Tuesday morning. With the arrival of moist air, visibility is projected to drop to less than 100 meters, classifying it as dense fog. The fog will initially settle over Jutland and Funen before extending to eastern Denmark, while Bornholm is forecasted to remain unaffected by these conditions.
Meteorologist Jesper Eriksen explained that this phenomenon is known as advection fog, which occurs when moist air moves over cooler surfaces, resulting in widespread fog conditions. He also noted the possibility of localized fog banks developing east of the primary fog area, a condition termed radiation fog. There have already been reports of dense fog in North Jutland earlier in the day, which may have contributed to several traffic accidents, indicating the hazardous implications of such weather conditions.
As the fog progresses across the country, the DMI urges drivers and those traveling during the affected hours to exercise caution due to the potential for reduced visibility and heightened accident risk. This weather warning underscores the importance of staying informed about local weather conditions, especially as dense fog can lead to dangerous situations on the road, necessitating preventive measures by authorities and caution among the populace.
