DMI issues warning about dense fog across the country
A dense fog warning has been issued by DMI for all of Denmark, expected to cause low visibility and potentially hazardous driving conditions.
The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued a warning for dense fog expected to roll across the entire country starting tonight at 10 PM and lasting until tomorrow morning. The warning indicates that visibility may drop below 100 meters, which is classified as dense fog, with only Bornholm expected to remain unaffected. This weather phenomenon is being driven by winds from the North Sea, first affecting the regions of Jutland and Funen before moving to Zealand later tonight.
Meteorologist Jesper Eriksen explained that this type of fog is known as advection fog, created when warm, moist air moves over cooler surfaces, leading to widespread coverage. Eriksen further noted that localized fog banks can develop to the east of the main fog mass, referred to as radiation fog. These conditions, if severe, can impair visibility significantly, prompting caution among drivers and anticipation of increased traffic incidents.
Indeed, fog has already caused several traffic accidents on the E45 motorway in Northern Jutland, resulting in injuries to 15 individuals and involving up to 40 vehicles. The combination of poor visibility and busy travel routes during night hours could lead to more such incidents, highlighting the urgent need for public awareness and careful driving as fog settles over Denmark.
