Estonian Women's Juniors Ranked 12th at World Championships

The Estonian women's junior biathlon team finished 12th at the World Championships, while the junior cross-country skiing team attained a 14th place finish.

At the recent World Championships, the Estonian women's junior biathlon relay team secured a 12th place finish, concluding the competition held in Lillehammer. The team featured athletes Kretel Kaljumäe, Kätrin Kärsna, Mia Mai Huik, and Pillerin Vilipuu, competing in a 4 x 6 km relay race. The event was won by the German team. In a separate competition, the Estonian junior trio in the 3 x 6 km race managed to secure a 13th place, with the Norwegian team taking the gold.

Additionally, in the cross-country skiing segment of the championships, Estonia's mixed relay team, comprising Juss Leiner, Gerda Kivil, Stefan Kivil, and Herta Rajas, finished in 14th place, again with Norway taking the top position. The overall performance of the Estonian athletes in biathlon was notably stronger, as they clinched three medals, with Jakob Kulbin finishing second in the men's juniors mass start race and third in the standard distance, while the boys' relay team composed of Daniel Varikov, Kristen Baumann, and Frederik Välbe secured a bronze medal.

This mixed outcome highlights the competitive landscape of junior athletes in Estonia, where despite finishing lower than expected in some areas, the success in biathlon could inspire younger competitors and contribute to the development of winter sports in the country. The World Championships serve not only as a platform for showcasing talent but also as a vital opportunity for these athletes to gain experience at an international level, which is crucial for their future careers in sports.
