Estonian juniors and youth achieved 12th place in the mixed relay at the World Championship

Estonian junior and youth teams finished 12th in the mixed relay at the World Biathlon Championships in Calgary.

The Estonian junior and youth teams competed in the mixed relay event at the World Biathlon Championships held in Calgary, finishing in 12th place. Initially, the Estonian team was in a promising position, leading after the second leg, thanks to Yaroslav Neverov, who shot well and handed over to Jakob Kulbin in fourth place. Kulbin, who had won a bronze medal just two days earlier, managed to maintain a strong performance despite a few missed targets, but subsequent performances by teammates Kretel Kaljumäe and Kätrin Kärsna led to a drop in the overall standings.

The competition was fierce, with Latvia taking the gold medal after finishing with 15 misses and a time of 1:17.55. Norway earned the silver medal, finishing only four and a half seconds behind Latvia with eight misses, while France took home the bronze with ten misses and a time deficit of 58.7 seconds. The performance of the Estonian team, though falling short of a podium finish, showcased the potential of young athletes on an international stage and provided valuable experience for future competitions.

Overall, the Estonian youth team comprising Dominik Lopuhhin, Kristen Baumann, Mirtel Kaljumäe, and Rosibel Marii Kaldvee also finished 12th, highlighting the challenges they faced in the competition. Despite this, their participation in such a high-level event is a positive step in their athletic development and paves the way for growth and higher aspirations in future championships.
